Intended learning outcomes

This course introduces to students the working principles of the most common solid-fluid unit operations that can be found in chemical/biological industries.
By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Understand the physical principles involved in industrial operations that manipulates exclusively solids, as: size reduction operations, classification and transport.
  2. Understand the theoretical principles involved in fluid motion through solids and solids motion in fluids, and characterize some unit operations based on those principles.
  3. Understand and characterize other important solid-liquid unit operations as: lixiviation, crystallization and solids drying.
  4. Be able to perform equipment sizing as well optimize the working conditions of the considered unit operations.
